Power of Women

Professor Jane Turner OBE, DL

Professor Jane Turner OBE DL was the founder and driving force behind the Power of Women Campaign. Until her passing in July of 2021, Jane was the Pro-Vice Chancellor for Enterprise and Business Engagement at Teesside University, as well as the gender champion for the University.

Born, raised, and having lived in the North East for the majority of her life, Jane Turner was acutely aware of the challenges that young women of the Tees Valley face as they try to build their careers and find success and happiness. She was a firm believer that it was our collective moral responsibility to create a better future for the young girls and women of the Tees Valley region. This is why she created the Power of Women Campaign; to lift and shift the aspirations of young women in the North East, so that they might be better equipped to deal with the same challenges she once faced as a young woman living in the Tees Valley.

In the last four years of her life, Jane never knew how much time she had left. Regardless, she dedicated this time to creating as much positive and lasting change as she could. Jane Turner’s dedication and legacy lives on through this campaign, through the gender stereotypes we will shatter, through the positive and lasting difference we will make, and through the young womens’ lives we change, for good.
