HELPING YOUNG PEOPLE

TO SEE WHAT´S POSSIBLE

As a parent or carer, you play an important role in helping young people understand their strengths, build confidence and explore what they might want from their future.

Power of Women creates opportunities for young people across the Tees Valley to meet positive role models, discover different careers and experiences, challenge stereotypes and develop the confidence to try new things.

WHAT DOES POW OFFER YOUNG PEOPLE?
Depending on their age and school, they may have the opportunity to:
ENGAGEMENT

Young people engage with inspiring role models, employers and new experiences that help them explore different careers, industries and pathways. Through workplace visits, events and practical activities, they connect with people and opportunities beyond the classroom and begin to see what’s possible.

EDUCATION

Our programmes help young people discover their strengths and interests while developing valuable skills for life, learning and work. Through workshops and hands-on experiences, they build confidence, communication, networking, presentation and leadership skills, while learning to challenge gender stereotypes and expectations.

EMPOWERMENT

We give young people the confidence and opportunity to find their voice, take on responsibility and become positive role models for others. Our POW Ambassadors represent their schools, share their experiences with their peers and help create a culture where everyone feels their voice matters.

HOW CAN I SUPPORT MY CHILD?
You don’t need to have all the answers about careers or the future. You can help by being curious about their interests, encouraging them to try new experiences and talking with them about the opportunities they discover through POW.

Ask them what they enjoyed. Who did they meet? What surprised them? What would they like to find out more about?

These simple conversations can help turn an experience into something that stays with them.
WHY DO ROLE MODELS MATTER?
SOMETIMES ONE CONVERSATION CAN CHANGE HOW A YOUNG PERSON SEES THEIR FUTURE.

Our role models share their experiences, career journeys and advice, giving young people the chance to meet people they can relate to and discover possibilities they may not have considered.

We work with role models from a wide range of backgrounds, industries and careers, helping young people understand that there is no single route to success.

WAYS TO DEVELOP THEIR CONFIDENCE

CONFIDENCE ISN’T ABOUT ALWAYS FEELING BRAVE OR BELIEVING YOU CAN DO EVERYTHING. IT’S ABOUT BELIEVING THAT YOU CAN HAVE A GO, LEARN FROM MISTAKES, ASK FOR HELP AND TRY AGAIN.

Encouraging independence
Give young people opportunities to make decisions, take responsibility and try things for themselves. Small experiences of success help them recognise what they are capable of and build a stronger sense of self-belief.

Celebrating effort, not just achievement
Help young people understand that getting things wrong is part of learning. Recognising their effort, persistence and progress — rather than focusing only on the end result — can help them feel more confident about trying new things and tackling challenges.

Creating opportunities to try new things
Encourage your young person to explore new interests, activities and experiences. Stepping outside their comfort zone can help them discover strengths and talents they didn’t know they had, while building confidence through experience.

Every young person is different. At PoW we believe in courage before confidence and with the right encouragement, support and opportunities to succeed, they can build confidence, recognise their strengths and develop the belief that they are capable of more than they might think.

"Thanks for your time with my daughter and helping her grow . You are all an amazing team"

"My child has learnt a lot and has grown so confident"

"I’ve enjoyed watching my children’s confidence grow. "
