After four months of working with Year 5 pupils across 22 primary schools, we’re delighted to have officially appointed our Power of Women Ambassadors.
In each school, we delivered a half-day session exploring gender equality and diversity, with class sizes ranging from 12 pupils to more than 80. Through open discussion and interactive activities, pupils examined the challenges that still exist, reflected on their own skills and confidence and explored the many pathways and opportunities available to them locally.
We received a fantastic number of applications for the Ambassador roles. Ambassadors are always appointed from both girls and boys because creating change takes everyone. Pupils took part in an interview process, supported by our brilliant PoW role models and it was wonderful to see the excitement (and relief!) on their faces when they found out they’d been successful.
We’re now looking ahead to the next seven months of the programme, including development days, workplace visits with local businesses and a graduation event. These experiences will support Ambassadors to grow as leaders within their schools and help create lasting, positive change.
We can’t wait to continue this journey with them.
Huge thanks to our partners, Spark Tees Valley for delivering this incredible programme.

Spearheaded by the Late Professor Jane Turner OBE DL, this campaign embodies Jane’s determination and commitment to improving life chances of girls in the Tees Valley region. We want to give girls and young women of the region the inspiration, tools and support that they need to take control over the direction of their own lives, and to not just survive, but thrive.
